31 AUTOMOTIVE, SUPPLY CHAIN MARITIME & TRANSPORT STATISTICS These industries are a significant employer of the Australian workforce. BY 2017, THE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS INDUSTRY IS EXPECTED TO EMPLOY MORE THAN 870,000 WORKERS. More than 27,000 trainees are employed within the supply chain, maritime and transport industries and around 29,500 are employed as automotive apprentices. The industries have seen significant growth in the number of people undergoing training, with approximately 570,000 subjects now studied annually. Thirty-one per cent of training was for qualifications at the Certificate IV level and above.
